I was wandering
With my hair on end
At my own wonders
Wondering for my bread
I told them
Believing is seeing
And they held on to every word I said
Yeah they held on to every word I said
I told them what I saw when I magnified the sun
But I couldn’t show the proof to anyone
But I couldn't show the proof to anyone
But the whole world is solid, all the way through
You kill the clockwork when you break the toy in two
It doesn’t take magic or mystery to be enthralled
All the spells are broken, or never worked at all
All the spells are broken, or never worked at all
I was just playing
To see what I could build
Fascinated
By the moving parts
I told them
There is a hidden world
And they believed me with all their hearts
Yeah they believed me with all their hearts
I told them I had wisdom, granted from on high
And they never stopped to think that I would lie
And they never stopped to think that I would lie
But the whole world is solid, all the way through
You kill the clockwork when you break the toy in two
It doesn’t take magic or mystery to be enthralled
All the spells are broken, or never worked at all
All the spells are broken, or never worked at all
All the spells are broken, or never worked at all

The Ocean in Her Hand
04:10
|
|||
She said “I promised him my ragged heart,
He could only promise me the sea.
He spent his days in the salty mist
Occasionally brought it home to me.”
He’d slip beneath the calling waves
Wished he could make his home down there
It’s hard to live in a fantasy
When you’re always coming up for air
You can get everything you want
As long as you don’t want too much
You can have it all right now
As long as you’re not in a rush
He promised her the ocean
She tried to stay there with him but could not
She found herself behind a lens
Occasionally showed him what she shot.
She poured her soul into photographs
Of waves and vessels taken from land
The ocean held him in its arms
But she could hold the ocean in her hand
So look out to the ocean
You don’t know what the tide could bring in
Keep eyes on the horizon
Your dreams may learn to swim
You can get everything you want
As long as you don’t want too much
You can have it all right now
As long as you’re not in a rush

Enough for Me
02:42
|
|||
There was no monster
Beneath your bed
But neither was it all
Just in your head
I couldn’t give you everything
I could only give you everything I had
We may never set the world on fire
But it’s enough for me
For us to be
A daughter and a dad
But it’s enough for me
For us to be
A daughter and a dad

The Transit of Venus
04:43
|
|||
Tear out the pages
Rewrite the past
The wisdom of ages
Was never going to last
And it’s no shame to hang your harp
Upon the willow for a while
Then shake the dust off of your feet
And gain another mile
It doesn’t matter if you don’t believe
The gods have ever seen us
We only know what we don’t know
And we can’t capture
The transit of Venus
The engine engages
The road is not clear
The wisdom of sages
Can’t help your hands to steer
And it’s no shame to hang your harp
Upon the willow for a while
Then shake the dust off of your feet
And gain another mile
It doesn’t matter if you don’t believe
The gods have ever seen us
We only know what we don’t know
And we can’t capture
The transit of Venus

So Wonderful
03:36
|
|||
Fifty three dollars later, or maybe it was fifty four
You put your money on the counter
We signed the papers and we walked out the door
Who knew it would be so wonderful
Who knew it would be so wonderful
From the snow of Montana to the California sand
Location doesn’t matter
Just as long as we are walking hand in hand
Who would have guessed it could be so wonderful
Who would have guessed it could be so wonderful
Detroit streets, Oklahoma prairie
Pacific Coast Highway moon in the spring
Yellowstone two-lane, high mountain, desert plain
Follow the next road and see what it brings
And I know it will be so wonderful
I know it will be so wonderful
So wonderful
So wonderful
Fifty three dollars later, or maybe it was fifty four
You put your cash on the counter
We signed the papers and we walked out the door

Chasing Shadows
03:36
|
|||
This was no accident
Just a slow descent
This was no master plan
Just chaos in your hand
We built a ghost town
In a wasteland
Planted our garden
On top of quicksand
We’re chasing shadows
Chased by the light of the moon
Not brave in battle
Just hope the war is over soon
No specter in the night
No phantom to fight
This was no grand design
Someone crossed a line
We keep our arms raised
Keep our flags hung
We cry for freedom
We devour our young
We’re chasing shadows
Chased by the light of the moon
Not brave in battle
Just hope the war is over soon
While we wait for the ricochet ...

Take it In (Breathe)
05:41
|
|||
Take it in
Breathe
Breathe it out
In this movie
Someone's troubled
Bent and broken
From the burden on their back
There seems to be no dawn approaching
But there’ll be a ray of light
Before the last scene fades to black
Take it in
Breathe
Breathe it out
Breathe
Tanita said
We get preyed upon
By the ruthless
and the reckless mob of men
It takes all your strength
To try to breathe
But you have to turn and face them all again
Take it in
Breathe
Breathe it out

This is How I Left It
03:25
|
|||
Songs not written
Time not given
Projects on the drawing board
Places unseen
Books unread
Thoughts left unexplored
This is how I left it
This is how I left it
Maybe there were things
I didn’t put away
Maybe there were words
I didn’t get the chance to say
This is how I left it
This is how I left it
So we whittle the world down
To not get lost
Not enough time
Or a way to pay the cost
Too many ideas
To make all of them fit
Some we get to finish
Some we have to quit
So
This is how I left it
This is how I left it
